8th December 2003 Player racekits in testing!
Player racekits have now been added to WolfMUD and are in testing on the development server. (see Servers). This new feature will allow you to setup Races such as Elf, Dwarf and Humans. Or if it is more sutible for your MUD you can setup social groups, casts or anything else. Easy to use as it is all done through the worldBuilder. No more opening up the code and tinkering trying to implement a new race or applying a race modification patch as with so many other codebases :) A screenshot of the new wolfBuilder racekits can be seen HERE. As soon as initial testing is complete downloads will be made available.

20th September 2003 Down but not out...
Well it's been nearly three months since any news was posted so whats been going on? Well the server issues from June have been sorted out. Thats the good news. However my development machine has not fared so well :( First of all it's drive started going plink-plink in a metallic sort of way and then died before I could get a current backup. Thats been replaced with an old 2Gb drive which seems to magically encrypt data - when you read data back it's not always what you stored! Not good. There's more! It turns out in one of the 128Mb DIMMs a single bit is stuck - write a 0 or a 1 and it always reads as 0. Sorted that out by using a patch called BadMEM which lets me continue to use the DIMM and I only lose a 4k block instead of the whole 128Mb. So my avid reader where does this leave things? I have an old, slow 2Gb drive that is only good as a paperweight. The rest of the machine is running on a whole heap of faith. I have lost some work on WolfMUD but still persist to work on it!

18th June 2003 Patch submitter lost!
Ok, someone going by the name Henning (aka bobble?) has sent me some patches and also had a few questions. Well I have tried to reply but there seems to be a problem with your return email. So if this is you please get in touch again!

8th June 2003 Few server issues
Well development has been a little slow recently due to a number of issues. First we had some good weather which caused a lot of thermal problems with my machines - not good but solved with big fans. Next server disk problems. For some reason the main server that hosts email, cvs, WolfMUD development and demo servers and other stuff started putting the disk into read only mode due to journalling errors. The system is backup now but I fear the disk may be failing - for now all I can do is keep and eye on it and hope I can pull together some money for a new disk before it fails. For now all is running and on with development.

26th May 2003 New Version Available
Well after a busy week and a very late night last night the newest version of WolfMUD is available. Build 306 contains many bug and typo fixes and introduces two new entities for creating food and drink type objects that can be beneficial or otherwise to players eating or drinking them. The current Demo Server will shortly be updated and new work will start going into the Development Server.

19th May 2003 Technical problems
Due to a few technical problems the servers have been off line most of today. However they are now backup again. Please note that the IP address is not fixed yet and you should check the IP address on the servers page before trying to connect. In due course this should all be sorted out.

17th May 2003 *** WolfMUD Servers now Online ***
I am pleased to announce that there are now two WolfMUD servers running. One is a Demo server running the latest code from the download area. The other is a development server running the latest snapshot of the code in development. For details see the Servers page. Please login, chat with each other and have fun!

21st April 2003 - WolfMUD on PowerPC Linux iBook?
After a very tough time debating with myself I finally retired my old Toshiba Laptop :( It was a 440CDX Satellite Pro (P133/144Mb/1Gb). It did the job of running Linux as a development environment very well for me for years. However it has now been replaced by an Apple iBook (G3 800Mhz/128Mb/30Gb) with a 12" TFT. Why the small screen? Well whats the point of a laptop you need a trolley to carry around? :D Anyway it's running Debian GNU/Linux and the Blackdown JDK 1.3.1 for PowerPC. It runs the WolfMUD server and world builder with no problems! So to sum up: PowerPC Linux on an iBook likes WolfMUD :) If you ask me nicely I may even answer your iBook/Linux questions if i can as I know it can be a bit of a problem to setup ;)

16th March 2003 - Quick update
Well things are a little slow right now. My new job is fun and exciting and keeping me busy. I'm currently doing a lot of work on a project which is currently hush-hush but will be released to the Open Source community. More details when I can but remember you heard it here first! In the meantime I am still working on documenting all of the entities in WolfMUD and people on the discussion group have seen two previews so far and the feedback has been very positive. I really must find more time to get it completed!

8th February 2003 - Good news!
Well some good news at last. I have found myself another job and am employed full time once again! Many thanks to all of the WolfMUD users out there who sent me job leads. I've actually been working for about 3 weeks now. Things are starting to settle down so on with WolfMUD!
