| INTRODUCTION |
The Society is committed to doing everything possible to conserve Wolverton's special character and heritage. We have noticed that Victorian Railway towns are not always taken very seriously. We feel that Wolverton's special role in early railway history should be celebrated. Just because this is not a Georgian coaching town does not mean that the Town deserves less respect. We have found that planners and developers, in the past, have often treated the Town with contempt.
We felt optimistic that some things might have changed, when in 2002, most of the town became a Conservation Area and in 2003 had the additional protection of an Article 4(2) Direction with stricter planning controls. This brought with it, the benefit of Heritage Regeneration Scheme Funding.
We usually have several projects of differing sizes that we are working on. We also have occasional exhibitions. We do try to keep the public informed about current issues of concern/interest. We usually find we have very good support locally.
If you would like to come along to one of our meetings, we meet on the 3rd Thursday of every month. This is at Foundation House, The Square. Meetings start at 7.30 and are friendly and fairly informal. You can come to one meeting as a visitor or decide to join the Society. Our meetings are entirely open.

Wolverton Society for Arts & Heritage was formed in 2001 from the separate Wolverton Heritage and Arts Sub-groups of the Wolverton Partnership regeneration project. These sub Groups had been working since 1997 on a range of Arts and Heritage regeneration based projects. The Society then joined the Civic Trust to become a Civic Society for Wolverton. We keep closely in touch with Wolverton and Greenleys Town Council and have a good working relationship with our local Town Councillors. We also try to have an occasional project with our local schools.
We have acquired the semi-jokey label of "The Heritage Police" (courtesy of the comedians at The Living Archive!) However to a certain effect this is one of our functions. We do keep a careful eye on planning issues.
