This has been a really dramatic improvement and has been the subject of many admiring comments from passers-by.
Previously the shopfront had a large quantity of bare metal and bare metal shutters. These shutters gave a very negative image on early closing days for the Butchers' shop. The large red and white plastic sign was very uninspiring.
Although the shopfront grant was only towards the cost of fascia level and below, The Butchers had the top storey painted in a warm buttermilk shade of masonry paint. This really compliments the shopfront improvements below. The metal work, bottom plinth and shutters are painted in Dulux heritage colour "Victorian 30". Metal work had been thoroughly prepared and metal primed. Side columns are in Dulux heritage colour "Victorian 29". The plastic sign has been replaced with a traditional wooden sign with deep moulding. The sign includes the colours chosen for the shopfront. A very popular feature of this sign is the raised circular motif of a bull's head. The shop now looks attractive all the time even when shut. This is a good example of the difference that can be made by bringing in a strongly defined colour scheme and the benefits of traditional sign writing.
