This has been a very dramatic improvement. Both the Heritage Group and the Shop Owner, Mrs. Khan (and her family) are very pleased with the results.

The masonry and metal areas were thoroughly prepared and stabilised. The old worn shop sign was removed from the shutter box which immediately meant that previously hidden architectural details could now be seen. Metal work was treated with a specialist primer so that it could be painted with good quality exterior gloss. This has meant that the security shutters now present a very different impression in the evening. Previously they presented a depressing image of bare metal (with graffiti) and painting them with deep blue gloss has totally transformed them. Several people thought they were new shutters!

Paints are from the Dulux Heritage Range. The pale gold masonry paint is "Victorian no. 14", while the deep blue gloss is colour "Azure". Both colours work very successfully with the Victorian terracotta coloured bricks of the upper storey so have dramatically improved the appearance of the whole building.

We have always maintained that putting back traditional signage on Wolverton shops would also show dramatic improvements and revive an additional interest in this traditional art form. The traditional hand painted sign now in place on this shop really compliments the scheme. It is now in the right position on fascia level and includes hand painted motifs on each side of the main fascia sign. The shop number is included above the door on the shutter box. The ochre, red and dark blue sign writing enamels tie in shop front colours and original brickwork. The flexibility possible with creating a hand painted sign has meant The Khans have been able to have involvement with the design of the main sign and motifs.
