This property was largely just in need of refurbishment and a hand painted sign. The property had the benefit of the original glossy tiles but one panel had been overpainted. This was cleaned off so that all the tiles matched. An Edwardian cream colour (number 7) was used on all the window/frames and the masonry paintwork. The door was painted dark brown to tone with the tiles.
The hand painted sign was designed to echo the colours used on the canopy. The background colour is Gold with the lettering in Heritage Red highlighted with Peacock Blue - all Edwardian Heritage colours. The vibrant colour scheme on the signage gives a much more lively presence to the Café - and is a total contrast to the rather bland plastic sign that it replaced.
This property, together with 3 others in this small parade of single storey shops, all lack their original stone ballustrading. We are very much hoping that these missing architectural details can be restored which would really improve the appearance of this part of Stratford Road.
