This is a very fine original shopfront with turned wooden details and wooden security shutters. The Victorian tiles had been painted over several times and we were keen to see them uncovered to reveal the original colour. When this was done, it could be seen that this was a vibrant deep green colour with pale green curved border tile. There had been neon lighting here for several years but as a new business was moving in this gave an opportunity for hand painted signage directly on the original fascia. ( A local enthusiast triumphantly carried off the neon sign so this has not been lost to the area)!
A turn of the nineteenth century Rennie Mackintosh lilac colour was chosen with deeper mauve accents. A soft traditional pearl green was chosen to contrast with the lilac and tie the scheme in with the tiles. Once the tiles were stripped and cleaned, a paint colour was matched to this for the adjoining residential door. This same colour green (with contrast gold) was used for the signage. The signage uses an exuberant curvy design for the lettering which fits in with the lively colour scheme. Some interest was added to the salon door and fanlight by using stained glass effect film.
Maureen, the Salon owner, has taken a lot of trouble to pay homage to the local heritage of the area and started this off by naming the salon - "The Works". Framed old views of Wolverton feature inside. The window displays feature boxed framed exhibits of old barbering and beauty artefacts.
