The pavement markers to highlight the Walk have all been installed. Artist Julia Manheim visited the Town and worked with local groups and residents to plan an art approach to history. Assistance on this and mosaics (on The Square) project was given by Ruth Charity, MK Council Public Arts Officer. We helped to research the locations chosen.
The markers contain recycled artifacts which give clues to the features they emphasise. Many also include lettering. A colourful brochure describing the various features is available. The brochure also has a number of interesting old photographs. See the News page for stockists.
Financial support from Southern Arts, Awards for All South East, EBMK Ltd., Wolverton & Greenleys Town Council, Wolverton Partnership, Milton Keynes Council and Railcare Ltd. (now Alstom). Many thanks to Milton Keynes Public Arts Officer for her help and advice on the town trail and Milton Keynes Highways Department for installing the markers. Also thanks to Milton Keynes Museum who provided some of the objects set into the markers.
The Wolverton Walk is part of a project that will carry on growing as other artists add site specific works. A longer outer walk is planned, which will include the surrounding countryside and industrial heritage sites. Wolverton Walk is described in detail in the Heritage Map page.
This slogan and the comical character (created by Philip Ilett) were used during the early phase of the project when we were looking for artifacts to set into the markers.
