From Pentyrch Gardeners' Diaries

“Ode to Pentyrch Open Gardens 2009” by Peter and Irene Dow

This time of year, POG looms again
But it's frosty and cold with spells of rain
Nothing much grows, birds peck the lawn
I'm staying indoors where it's cosy and warm.

Committee has met and jobs reviewed
Last year's event was good, it's viewed
But this time around, it's Year No 10
So special's the word for us gardeners again.

My garden's not open this time around
But flowers and plants, they will still abound
So thoughts of pruning and digging and mowing
My vitamin pills will soon get me going.

It's only the weather that we're waiting for
I'll put on my boots and be out of the door
To plant the shrubs and plugs and seeds
To fill the holes, and pull the weeds.

So roll on May 16th, the Plant Sale Day
Sue Cragg is busy planning away
Flowers and plants will fill her plot
Come to the village Hall and she'll sell the lot.

The Hall will buzz with coffees and teas
The ladies work hard and aim to please
So come on down and meet us the crew
The POG Committee will welcome you.

Now back to thoughts of summer sun
And lazy days when the gardening's done
You'll wander round gardens large and small
A great day out is had by all.

So join us on the POG weekend
And don't forget to bring a friend
July 18 and 19, remember the date
It starts at ten so don't be late.

Many friends you'll make along the way
We'll spruce up our gardens for Open Day.
