Chapman, wife Mary and children Eliza, Thomas, James, Mark, Martha and Amos sailed on the SS CONSTANT from Southampton, England on 8 Nov 1854 and arrived in Portland, Victoria on 22 Feb 1855. They lived at 20 Napier St, Essendon.

Josiah WOODS was 19 years when, with the PITCHES' family, left Gravesend in the 'MAITLAND' on 14 Sep 1848 and arrived at Port Phillip, Melbourne at 6pm on 7 Jan 1849. The MAITLAN of 648 tons carried 204 adults and 82 children. Josiah WOODS, a Wesleyan, was married at the Church of England cathedral of St James, William Street, Melbourne. Eliza lived at 1 Blair Street, Moonee Ponds. Josiah had a freehold of 7 acres of land in 1856.

William and Anne and baby daughter Emily along with Rebecca and James BRAND sailed on the 'WANATA' which left Southampton on 25 Oct 1853 arriving in Melbourne 22 Jan 1854. Died of senile decay.

Amos left Sunday School with his sister to visit an Aboriginal Camp near the intersection of Mount Alexandra Road and Fletcher Street. He suffered a heart attack and fell into the aborigine's fire. He was dead when pulled out from the fire. The aboriginals came to the Essendon Common several times a year to hold corrobories. The Common was densely timbered and bounded by Mount Alexandra Road, Lincoln and Buckley Street. The area contained a natural water hole.
