Wyrley were comprehensively beaten by a better side in a match in which they struggled bravely to try and play football against a team that were quicker, stronger and showed better movement off the ball. In their defence, Wyrley could point to the absence of their two key midfield players - but it is unlikely that even their presence could have prevented a defeat.
Essington caused problems down the left hand side right from the start and went ahead within 5 minutes adding to their tally on 10 and 20 minutes.
Wyrley had appeals for a penalty turned down when the ball hit the outstretched arm of an Essington defender from a corner.
Half-time: Wyrley 0 - Essington 3
Wyrley started the second half with Todd Wootton playing on the right-hand side in place of Edward Marrocco.
Essington started the second half in more direct fashion with a goal within 5 minutes. A shot towards Wyrley's goal beat the advancing Mark Biddulph in the Wyrley goal. Alex Hartshorn chased back but was unable to clear despite a brave last ditch attempt to prevent the ball crossing the line.
Essington went further ahead on 45 minutes with a bullet of a shot from the right-hand side and followed it up 5 minutes later with Essington's sixth goal of the game.
Shaun Nicholls came on as a substitute at left back to replace an injured Anthony Briggs with Adam Nicholls moving to the left side of midfield.
It was the combination of Shaun Nicholls and Adam Nicholls which led to a throw-in to Wyrley deep in the Essington half. Matthew Anstey took the throw-in quickly to Matthew Grendon whose instinctive shot flashed across the face of the goal.
Wyrley held Essington at bay for long periods in the second half without ever making in-roads into the opposition half.
Essington's seventh and final goal was scored on 65 minutes when a long-range shot which was well parried by Mark Biddulph was followed up from close range.
