Bilbrook had kindly arranged for the use of their home ground as the venue for this game as a result of Jones Lane being waterlogged.
Wyrley started the game extremely brightly and played the better football for the first 20 minutes of the game with neat passing and movement off the ball. During this period, it was from a free kick conceded by Bilbrook for a foul on Matthew Anstey that Wyrley scored their first goal. Adam Nicholls floated the ball in from the left to the far post where Matthew Grendon met the ball with a sweetly struck volley low into the net.
The heavy pitch contributed to the mistakes that led to Bilbrook's equaliser. Both the Wyrley central defenders Alex Hartshorn and Thomas Evans (standing in for the absent Jason Dennerley) missed the ball as it was played through the middle for two Bilbrook players to bear down on goal leaving Mark Biddulph no chance.
Bilbrook's continuing pressure resulted in several chances for them to score. Bilbrook had seemingly justifiable claims for a penalty turned down when Adam Nicholls tripped a player from behind. Bilbrook also hit the post with Mark Biddulph gathering the rebound.
Wyrley also had chances to score with Matthew Anstey and Simon Casserley going close before Bilbrook went two goals ahead in the space of as many minutes just before half-time.
Karl Deeley replaced Edward Marrocco just before half-time but Wyrley continued to lack presence in midfield. Mark Biddulph made an excellent point-blank save to keep Wyrley in touch going into the break.
Half-time: Wyrley 1 - Bilbrook 3
Wyrley started the second half as brightly as they had started the first but Bilbrook's confidence in front of goal gave them plenty of problems at the back. Within three minutes of the restart, Bilbrook had forced another excellent save from Mark Biddulph and had hit the bar from the resulting corner.
Bilbrook scored their fourth goal from a shot on the edge of the penalty area following a corner while Karl Deeley was off the field recovering from an injury sustained while blocking a clearance. Bilbrook's fifth goal had a suspicion of offside but there was no argument about the sweet curling lob which gave Bilbrook their sixth.
Wyrley heads were well and truly down by now as Bilbrook threatened to score with every attack - in fact at one point in the second half they actually were scoring with every attack!
The substitutions of Matthew Grendon for Todd Wootton and the injured Simon Casserley for Shaun Nicholls failed to stem the flow.
The switch of Thomas Evans to right midfield with Todd Wootton playing as central defender did prompt a late rally from Wyrley which culminated in their second goal. Luke Moseley advanced forward to win the ball in midfield and played it through to Matthew Anstey who did well to fend off the challenges of two Bilbrook players before reaching the bye-line and playing the ball back to Thomas Evans on the edge of the six-yard box who side-footed the ball into the net to make the score 2-9.
Wyrley's defence continued to miss the presence of Jason Dennerley as they conceded two further goals before the end.
This was the second successive cup game in which Wyrley had scored two goals and despite the quality of Wyrley's goals in this game, they could have no argument about the margin of defeat. In this instance their tally was woefully insufficient to see them through to the next round of this competition.
