Wyrley went into this game hoping that they could improve on their performance in the corresponding away fixture against Redhouse earlier in the season when they scored five goals and conceded seven. In the event, the effort and discipline of the whole team was rewarded with a result that went beyond anyone's expectations.
The opening period set the tone for the whole game with Wyrley camped in the opposition half of the pitch and frustrating Redhouse's attempts to put any moves of note together. In fact, it was 20 minutes before Redhouse posed any threat on the Wyrley goal by which time they were already one goal down through a superb strike on 10 minutes by Simon Casserley from 25 yards beyond the keeper into the top left corner.
It then looked as though it was going to be one of those days when first Adam Nicholls hit the post and Matthew Anstey hit the bar with long-range shots before Wyrley's endeavour got its further reward on 37 minutes when Thomas Evans scored after some good work by Jordan Clarke to work an opening.
On those occasions when Redhouse threatened, Wyrley showed good organisation at the back which restricted Redhouse to a handful of chances. Jason Dennerley and Alex Hartshorn were extremely composed in the centre of the defence with Simon Casserley, Luke Brown and Thomas Evans working hard to deny Redhouse any space or time on the ball. In one of the few clear-cut chances mounted by Redhouse, they were denied by a save by Mark Biddulph whose fingertips diverted the ball over the bar.
Half-time: Wyrley 2 - Redhouse 0
The second half started with a fifteen minute spell which saw Wyrley's best period of the whole game resulting in three goals within 12 minutes.
The first of these on 44 minutes followed a flowing move down the right resulting in a low pinpoint cross from Alex Hartshorn which was met in the box by Jordan Clarke who made no mistake from six yards. Ten minutes into the second half, Luke Brown battled his way into the box from the right-hand side and prodded the ball through to Matthew Anstey who rifled the ball home for Wyrley's fourth goal.
Two minutes afterwards, Luke Brown got his own reward to make the score 5-0 after he and Matthew Anstey had worked an opening from a through-ball from Simon Casserley. Luke Brown poked the ball past the Redhouse keeper and looked to have squandered the opportunity as he and Matthew Anstey seemed to leave the ball for each other before Luke took the initiative and prodded the ball over the line.
The game became increasingly stretched as the players resorted to long balls forward as tired legs began to take their toll. Both teams had chances in the final twenty minutes with Mark Biddulph in the Wyrley goal being pressed into action on several occasions.
Edward Marrocco replaced Simon Casserley on 70 minutes before Wyrley scored their sixth and final goal of the afternoon.
Todd Wootton had posed all sorts of problems for Redhouse on the right hand side of midfield. His pace and link play with Luke Moseley had been a constant thorn in their side culminating on 75 minutes with a fine piece of counter-attacking football. Todd collected the ball on the half-way line and ran it all the way to the opposition goal-line fending off the attentions of the Redhouse defenders and on into the penalty area where he slipped the ball through to Luke Brown who scored his second goal of the game.
The goal wrapped up a memorable team performance from Wyrley with every player playing their part in an impressive win which underlines how far Wyrley have come since their opening games of the season. The fact that the six goals were scored by five different players and that none were conceded emphasises how well Wyrley worked for and supported each other both when attacking and defending.
