MODELS
to comply with specifications in the 2001
FAI Sporting Code section 4d – Space Models. Classes S4A-Boost
Glider, S6B-Streamer Duration, S8E/P-RC Rocket Glider Spot Landing and
S9B-Gyrocopter Duration will be flown in accord with these parameters.

Categories
Egg
Loft Duration
Object – to safely launch & recover a rocket carrying a fragile
payload, whilst recording the highest possible airtime under a parachute. The
model shall be recovered – if theres no danger to life or limb, as agreed by
judges at the time) – for the egg to be
inspected for breakage. Flight score to be Zero
if the egg is damaged in any way.
Model
design and construction is unrestricted, save that provision for a fresh
chicken’s egg – provided by the organisers – should be made. Maximum
impulse shall be 10Ns (“C” power), using UK homologated 18mm propellants.
Three flights allowed, the higher two to be summed and be recorded as the
competitor’s score – the highest scores to rank the flyers. There is no
maximum time (max).
Lamprey
Parachute Duration Object
– to launch and recover a rocket under a parachute of restricted diameter, in
order to record the highest airtime. The model must fulfil the following
construction conditions. Length min. Model design is unrestricted, but the major
part of the rocket body shall be cardboard;
plastic or balsa nosecones/fins are legitimate. Dimensions are >590mm overall
length; diameter to be 34mm (estes BT55 and BT56 are both eligible for use) for 450mm of the overall length. Maximum impulse
shall be 5Ns (“B” power), using UK homologated 18mm propellants. Maximum
parachute diameter to be 750mm (30 inches). Three flights allowed, all to be summed and be
recorded as the competitor’s score – the highest scores to rank the flyers.
There is no maximum time (max).
Sport
Scale
Object – To present a scale replica of a full-size prototype, have it
scrutinised for veracity and craftsmanship by a panel of judges and then to make
a qualification flight, which will also be judged for realism and special
effects.
Any
full-sized prototype may be selected - preferably some documentation relating to
the prototype should be submitted. Maximum impulse shall be 80Ns (“F”
power), which may be applied singly, or in clusters and stages, as desired. The
static score shall be added to the flight score, the highest scores to rank the
competitors.
MicroMaxx
Boost Glider
Object - To boost a small
glider under these tiny propellants and to achieve the highest flight duration.
Model
design is unrestricted (no rogallo gliders) and two flights in each category
shall be allowed, the sum of these being the competitor’s score. The highest
scores to decide the winners. There is no maximum time (max).
Show
Models : OddRocs
Object – To build a safe flying model rocket in the form of an unusual
object, have it judged for originality, fun factor & quality and then make a
qualification flight, also to be judged.
Model design is unrestricted and two attempts shall be allowed, the better being the competitor’s score. The sum of the static scores and the flight scores to decide the winner.
Jetex Rapier
There will be no restriction on the size/type of model entered into this category. There will be 3 flights made by each competitor, with 2 overall winners, one winner for the longest single flight time, and one for the highest average of the 3 flight times.
Any flights over 10 seconds count, aircraft may be picked up and re-launched, but timings start from the point which they are re-launched.
Any aircraft design is eligible for this class. The engines used must be either jetex 50 or any single rapier engine.
A maximum of 2 aircraft are allowed for the competition. At least one aircraft must be recovered.
