NIKE HERCULES   PLAN PAK

Successor to the NIKE AJAX, the much-improved NIKE HERCULES first became operational in the U.S. in 1958.  Its HIPAR (High Power Acquisition Radar) tracking system enabled it to intercept and destroy targets at ranges up to 140 km.   Targets successfully engaged included high performance aircraft drones, short range ballistic missiles, and even other NIKE HERCULES missiles.  Foreign users include Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Italy, and the Republic of Korea.  Japan produces their own (non-nuclear) version under a licensing agreement with the American manufacturer.

Our Plan-Pak for the NIKE HERCULES will result in a fantastic 1:9.92 scale version of this historic interceptor.  Four clustered "D" motors make the launch of the model nearly as exciting as the firing of the original.  The massive booster is recovered safely by its own 18" diameter parachute, while the upper stage continues on a fifth "D" motor, fired by this rocket's self-contained electrical 2nd-stage ignition system.  Four feet tall!  Requires 12 volt ignition system for clustered booster.
