RIM-67A PLAN PAK

This missile was developed in the early 1960's as part of a series intended to replace the Tartar and Terrier missiles.  STANDARD incorporated several variations for different mission profiles, as is demonstrated by the AGM-78.   This was capable of intercepting targets at ranges of up to 60 miles.  This two-stage missile was usually fired from overhead rail launchers, although the medium range, single stage variant has been fitted with folding fins to fit a more compact box launcher.  STANDARD forms part of the complex Aegis ship-defense system.

This is the largest Plan-Pak missile THE LAUNCH PAD has ever designed!  Our 1/5.2 scale model of this important naval weapon towers more than 62 inches tall!  The booster blasts this rocket skyward with the power of three "D" motors, and another "D" takes over to loft the upper stage to apogee!  The booster stage returns safely on its own 24" diameter parachute, while an 18" diameter 'chute cushions the landing of the upper stage.  RIM-67A uses the latest improved version of our special LAUNCH PAD self contained electrical ignition system for reliable air-start.  Because of the size of this rocket, a four-foot long, 1/4" diameter launch rod or a split-rail launcher is recommended, as is a 12 volt launch system for reliable ignition of clustered motors.

NOTE!: This Plan-Pak rocket can use THE LAUNCH PAD's STANDARD AGM-78 kit for the airframe of the upper stage.  All internal modifications for this use are shown in the RIM-67A Plan-Pak.
