It's been a while since we've been at Dorchester. Not since The Chequers closed down
Chilly evening threatening rain, that was tonight. The bulk of us gathered at the car-park by the bridge. Our Hash-master tried to get us move on to the pub. 'No. Get CS worried' some-one said - no, for once it wasn't me. Seemed like a good idea, so we stayed where we were until gone 7. And when we walked round to the pub, there was CS Gas and Eric indeed looking quite worried. What did he look like though with that tea-cosy on his head and the 'dread-locks' (???) hanging down. CS introduced thre new-comers: Mark, Keith and Erica with a K-9, and everyone continued catching up on all the gossip. But eventually our Hash-master calmed all down and after a few words from CS, we were off. Not a long run, about 4 miles long, CS had promised - I wasn't the only one though who remembered his East Hanney trail when it was pitch black when we got back and he nearly got lynched. Down to the bridge, under it and back into town on the opposite side of the road - nice one CS - before turning right just past the pub and heading out into the country. We did a loop, never quite reaching the Reading road but ending up in a nature reserve/millenium type project area, before returning to the bridge, but the Reading sdide of it. Then we crossed the road and headed down to the River Thames before turning back in towards Dorchester again. Darkness enveloped us quite early on and quite qickly but the going underfoot was quite good. Well . . . all I'll say is that if there's a report about a tidal wave on the river last night, it wasn't caused by Lemony Snicket when she went flying. In Dorchester, we meandered along a maze of tracks before eventually finding ourselves back at the pub. And only quarter past eight. CS reckoned that trail was about 4 miles - I thought it might have been less. But a good trail, CS - thanks. Enjoyed it.
The chips had been pre-ordered - and boy, some chips they were too. And, the lover of 'big ones' wasn't there. Bootsy I'm talking about. Not too many chips though. And who was waiting for us inside when we got back, but Pressganger and Billy Whizz (oh and a nearly empty chip bowl).
Golden Shower came up with a Run List for the Sunday runs and I think it was genarally well received. However there will be changes, in fact two were pencilled in tonight - as, he said, and as I keep saying, the Web Site list will be the definitive one - so keep checking the Web-site. I haven't included the list yet, I'm waiting for Golden Shower to sebd me the list in electronic format otherwise my two fingers will get too tired.
So, next week. We're at the Merry Miller, Cothill. yet another venue change. The Hare will be Golden shower and this is his 47th birthday trot. The beers could be on him. The chips too if Treacle Tart lets him down. BRING YOUR TORCHES.
