About Us

What a view!!

Apparently Iron Age items have been found around Didcot, so some would say that it has been around a long time. Certainly, the Romans knew about it. In more recent time it, was part of Berkshire - though now, as we all know, it's very much in Oxfordshire. A major railway, it was actually 'put on the map' by Brunel. But, it wasn't the railway connection which was responsible for Didcot's expansion from a sleepy, rural village to the thriving urban connurbation it is now. That was due to the arrival of the Army, back in the 1st World War. Having said that, times do change, and the military presence in the town is almost 'no more'.

Golden Shower, Hash Master

So, what is Didcot best known for? It is, of course, the Power Station - located on land originally owned by the MOD as a Munitions Storage Area. The Power station with its architecturally beautiful structures, the Cooling Towers, visible from almost any high point in the County. And, yes, I am taking the proverbial ...

The Didcot Hash too owes it's existence to the military connection, though like the town that connection has almost disappeared. It started in 1986 (the first run was on 8 April of that year), with hashers being listed in the time honoured military tradition in descending rank order.

Pressganger - Hash Cash

We are a small group, when you compare us to the likes of Oxford, Bicester or Berkshire - sometimes we are lucky to field 6 for a run. But we survived the recent Foot & Mouth crisis so I think we'll survive a little bit longer. We're sometimes referred to as a 'gentleman's hash'; politeness, no swearing, every check is a re-group and a lack of down downs are our trade marks.

The executive? The Hash Master is Golden Shower. Hash Cash is Pressganger. And, of course, every Hash has a Religious Adviser or the RA. That's yours truly - Plod is the handle - but as Hash subs are only 50p a week/run there are no funds for the beer for the down downs ... well, suffice to say, my services are rarely called for. So, to justify my position, I double as the Web Master - and take the proverbial in the Hash Trash.

Plod - RA and Web Master

During the summer, we run on Tuesday evenings, 7 pm (not too prompt) start. In the winter, we change over to every other Sunday morning, 11 am start. Our subs are only 50p per run. We always like to see new or, as is more often the case, visiting hashers
