Central Iraq 31st March, 2003.
The wreckage of an AH-64D Apache Longbow thought to be from the 3rd Infantry
Division's 1-3rd Aviation Regiment.
This particular Apache crashed during take-off at around noon local time on
31st March as it was preparing to escort
a medical-evacuation Black Hawk to a battle area to retrieve a soldier killed
during a fight.
Fortunately, neither Mike Carman nor Cathy Jarrell, the flight crew, were seriously
injured in this accident.

Central Iraq 28th March, 2003.
Another AH-64D Apache, thought to be operating without a Longbow radar fitted
at the time, after a crash landing during
"brownout" conditions. This was one of two Apaches that befell similar
accidents on the night of the 28th, one also causing
some damage to a UH-60 Black Hawk parked nearby. The other Apache had its mast
radar fitted and was also very badly
damaged. Both are thought to have been assigned to the 2-101st Aviation Regiment.
Of the four crew members involved in these two incidents, only one sustained
serious injury, thought to be a broken leg.

Showing typical bullet hole damage that many of the US Army Apaches are subjected
to during this conflict, an example from
the 101st Airborne Division sits receiving attention from a busy groundcrew.
